Manage Stress using Hypnosis

Manage Stress using Hypnosis

Stress is our physical, mental, and chemical response to demands in our lives. The demands can be positive of negative. It can be getting married or getting divorced; getting hired or getting fired. We can’t change the demands in our lives, but we can change the way we respond to them. Many people manage stress by eating. But there are other ways to manage stress besides eating. There are breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation. Hypnosis uses relaxation techniques, guided imagery, direct suggestions, and anchors to manage stress.

An anchor is an external stimulant that produces an internal response. The classic anchor is the touch your finger to thumb external stimulant which produces an internal response of relaxation; which is the opposite of stress. Here’s how to do it:

Positive Anchor for Stress

Imagine you are at your calm, relaxing place. This is the place where you feel so calm, so relaxed, so still, so serene. Now describe your calm place to yourself, fully associate into it, in first person. Seeing what you see through your eyes, hearing what you hear through your ears, and feeling what you feel in your body. You’re there, in first person, fully associated.

Now amplify the sights, sounds, and feelings. Make the sights bigger, brighter, in 3D. Make the sounds clearer, more soothing. Make the feelings more relaxing.

And as you feel so calm, so relaxed, so still, so serene… touch your index finger and thumb of your dominant hand and say to yourself “relax”. See, hear, and feel your calm place. (Repeat 3 times)

Now let’s rehearse. How do you know when you are stressed? Is it something you see, hear, or feel? Go through a scenario where you have an increased level of stress and see, hear, and feel the images, sounds, and feelings. Now touch your index finger and thumb of your dominant hand and say “relax”.  See, hear, and feel your calm place instead. (Repeat 3 times) No stress now, right. Good.

Whenever you need to feel relaxed, touch your index finger and thumb of your dominant hand, and you will feel as relaxed as if you were at your calm, relaxing place.

This technique, when done in the hypnotic state, is supercharged.
